Decorative Shelf Insert with ISPRINGI Pattern

Single-Layer Decorative Shelf Insert

The idea for our shelf insert was born from a desire for order.
The primary intention was to conceal objects that felt foreign to the space being furnished (such as electronic devices and cables).
A key starting parameter of the concept was to create an object that could be produced economically and efficiently from sheet metal, yet be versatile in its application and easily movable within the space.
Along these parameters, the idea of a self-standing shelf front began to take shape—one whose base, side walls, and even the simple yet graceful handle on top could be formed purely through bending.

As a study in pattern design, we adapted the leaf motif from our flyer holder for the shelf insert as well. When drawing the patterns, we must always consider the parameters associated with sheet metal products (sheet thickness, edge rounding), as well as the visual requirements regarding pattern repetition and run-out.

By using an appropriate number of shelf inserts, they can not only conceal objects meant to be hidden but can also actively decorate—or even shape—the space when used in multiples. Furthermore, when equipped with lighting, they can create yet another creative appearance within the host shelves, using intense colors that now appear in the inverse of the patterns.

Naturally, beyond the square aspect ratio, the inserts can be made for furniture openings of any size, as we always adapt the patterns to the dimensions of the opening.

In this case, too, we demonstrated through graphic variations of the pattern and different insert heights how even seemingly small modifications can fine-tune the object’s character and appearance.

Dual-Layer Decorative Shelf Insert

The development of the shelf insert did not stop there! Our designer added another sheet/pattern layer behind the front panel of the decorative insert to break the static nature of a strictly geometric piece of furniture by introducing a fresh, playful atmosphere.
The two patterns interact with each other on multiple planes.
This arrangement creates not only a visual interference between the layers but also symbolizes the spatial depth of a living forest’s vegetation.
We further enhanced the excitement through the contrast of different surface qualities: we requested our partner to apply fine-textured and smooth satin powder coatings to the elements.
